Vlamingii tang any info?

Hi,
i just obtained a vlamingii tang from my favorite fish store and i was just thinking of some of the requirements. My tank is a 55 gallon reef tanks with 5 other fishes plants and corals. my nitrate in below 20 nitrate 0 amonia 0 calcium about 350 ppm ph is between8.0 and 8.4 (the collors on the test look like there imbitween salinity is about 24.5 is this to hight?

A vlamingii tang gets to be over 2', so your tank is way way to small. Even small Juv. are to small for that size tank.

What do you want to know about them? As Marrone said, they get enormous!
Beautiful fish especially with "adult" coloration.

I've had my Vlimangi for approx. 1 1/2 years and he is between 13 to 15 inches in size already and showing no signs of slowing down. These Tangs get huge and eat a ton. They also poop a ton....I wouldn't feel comfortable having a Vlimangi in anything smaller than a 300 gallon, and that would even get tight after a few years. IMO.

They are hardy fish, feed lots of Nori!!!!!

May i ask why you have your fish in a pool? What do you use for a filter. Nice fish in there!

My vlamingii tang is about 3 inches and i know i will need a bigger tank i will be getting one in about 5 months (if not sooner) and i wasnt sure what size to get so about 300 gallons you think? Ive wanted a BIG fishtank for a while im just not sure were to buy one. And i do feed lots of dried seaweed mine dos'nt like it on a clip it likes it if i rip the seaweed in to bite size pices and then he eats alot of it. I know that they need lots of vitamin C but is there any thing else besides a bigger tank and lots of seaweed?

vlamingi are very hardy and peaceful fish. They do grow relatively quickly and get pretty darn big. Otherwise they are great fish. Seaweed fine. They like meaty foods too in general.

Yeah, mine eats everything!! I supplement with a bunch of nori, but his main diet is meaty foods such as squid, scallops, shrimp, krill, tilapia, etc etc

And i want you all to know i wouldnt have bought the fish if the guy at the fish store would have sed thaat 125 gallons wasnt big enought for it. And it seems to be geting better color since ive been feeding it a few times a day with the dried seaweed he dosent seem to like the meety stuff. Ill try and get a pic of him to.

I had a 9 inch Vlamigni in a 400 and it did awesome, by far one of my favorites. If I were you I would take it back or sell it until you get a larger tank.

I have a question, would there be any problems with a Vlamigni tang (8-10") and a Sohol Tang (11") together in a 500 gallon tank, because I'm looking at getting a Vlamingni, I think there a cool looking fish.

Well, the vlamingi isn't the problem. It's whether or not your sohal will be a psycho. Those fish can be.....antisocial

sohol's can be mean SOB's.... Vlamingi's are generally more peaceful so even if he is bigger he may well get harassed severely by a large sohol.

BTW, I wouldn't keep a vlamingi in anything less than 300 gallons longterm. At 2' he needs something at least 30-36" deep (front to back) and 8' long. Even at only 2' high that is still alot of gallonage. Awesome s/w pond fish though....

I cant sell it back to the fish store.... all the fish there were sick and he dosent seem to take care of the fish only his sps coral. And like i sed the fish store is 3 hours away. Ans a tank 8 feet long 36 inches wide and 40 inches hight is about 600 gallons wich wold be good but i dont know of any tank makers inorder to make that size but do any of you?

there are a lot of custom tank makers. Most likely some relatively local to you that you don't know about. Where do you live? Location is an issue b/c obviously freight on a tank that size becomes an issue.
