Vol_reefer's pre-sales for the swap

Hi all,

Here's my pre-sales for the swap. I'm going to have to do all pre-sales this year because I actually have to be out of town for some field work in Nevada on the day of the swap. But Randy (ct_vol) has very kindly offered to bring all my pre-sales to the swap for me. So if you're interested, arrange the sale with me by PM by the Saturday before the swap (June 13th). I will cut and mount (unless otherwise requested) your frags and Randy will bring them to the swap the following weekend.

All photos were taken under 20K lighting. I've done no post-processing of the photos other than cropping, rotating, and re-sizing - nothing that would affect the colors. Some of the photos were taken with a Canon Eos 40D using either a zoom or macro lens, set for auto white balance. The others were taken with a Canon SD800 using its "underwater" setting, which I think does compensate a bit for the blue in the lights, but not excessively. Some of the SD800 shots were taken with the camera in the tank using an underwater housing.

I have no known pests other than a little nuisance algae (hair algae and some valonia), which should not be an issue for fresh-cut frags. Frag sizes will vary from one coral to another, but will all be as large or better as typically available from the online vendors.

Here's some full-tank shots to give the overview:

First, some montis. These are all fast growers and relatively easy to keep:

Idaho Grape (source: Coral Reef, who got it from cee). $15/frag:
<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/gNJk2ma96EBBC8i45jCD0g?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYP6wds-kI/AAAAAAAACnU/AXaYH3kcPhU/s800/Idaho%20grape.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

Green and baby blue encrusting/towering monti (source: Coral Reef). The same colony can be seen to the right of the Idaho Grape above. $15/frag:
<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/g4LJWOrj4EDiu71QXobPuA?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYPyymtKaI/AAAAAAAACmw/YmqMwsvRsTo/s800/Green%20monti.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

Encrusting/towering m. hispida, with army green base and flourescent green polyps (source: Upscales in Oregon). $15/frag:
<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/tXdKtjyyXOO35ZfMCD17Wg?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYP1YpBoeI/AAAAAAAACm8/rlG8oapb4Bg/s800/M%20hispida.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>And yes, this coral was happy to see me. :)

More montis:

Green M. capricornis (source: not sure - a regional frag swap, I think). $10/frag:<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/QR8tF9sX1uus30RCcuAn2Q?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYP-YVNK2I/AAAAAAAACns/rY6gY9fFpUw/s800/Green%20cap.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

Orange m. digitata (source: Upscales). $15/frag:<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/3U08NqAWgcofamMAQ5TNGg?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYPueKGWCI/AAAAAAAACmU/rDb0b1nnago/s800/Orange%20digi.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

Purple m. digitata (source: can't remember). $15/frag:<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/HukOcCczKcfBMCMenFw-fg?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYQAE-0OpI/AAAAAAAACn0/aXCg70kzMMQ/s800/Purple%20digi.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

M. spumosa (source: kmagyar here on RC). Not a great photo, but it's a nice encruster, with interesting nodular towers. $20/frag:<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/BvsA3GThCbReAtLUkSKeQQ?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYP390d0zI/AAAAAAAACnI/JLjcH2T8mG8/s800/M%20spumosa.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

Last monti - the encrusting "Fire Monti" from DFS, which I hereby shamelessly rename the "Volunteer Orange Monti." It was hard to get a good shot of this one because it's way in the back of my tank, encrusting up the back wall - a big portion is being blocked by an acro in the foreground. The bit of discoloration in the lower part of the colony is just from it having been covered up there by a small piece of live rock. I removed the LR about two weeks ago and it is coloring back up. I wouldn't frag from that part of the colony right now though, no worries. This one is a somewhat slower grower than the others, but the color is really something to see. I've never fragged it before, and I don't know how easy it will be to carve off a piece, so I might have to cancel any sales on this if I can't get good frags without ruining the attachment of the parent colony to the wall. $25/frag:<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/2znOcgb7WlfZ6G-OHcsDBA?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYP24fM_2I/AAAAAAAACnE/ThDPYT_B2fc/s800/Fire%20monti.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

Next, some pocilloporas (all damicornis, I believe). Very fast growers, very tolerant.

Green poci. (source: Upscales). $10/frag:<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Tf7EHPRJFnIm9L9EX0PEsA?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYPxIwa2YI/AAAAAAAACmk/zmkBlvIziMs/s800/Green%20poci.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

Raspberry poci. (source: Nashville frag swap I think). $10/frag:<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/J_3eCRClN0fD2zzrCL81iA?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYPwZ3rMyI/AAAAAAAACmg/HlvRQvPRXgg/s800/Rasp%20poci.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

Here's a shot of the green and raspberry pocis together:<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/XeHBJazqXabKj13FVGTsqQ?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYPvmTYITI/AAAAAAAACmc/fHJ6az-aj_M/s800/Two%20pocis.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

Hot pink/purple poci (source: Upscales). This one is a slower grower than the other two pocis. The photo doesn't do a great job of conveying the color - it's somewhere between pink and purple, but very vibrant and pure-colored. It is different from the raspberry poci above in that the raspberry is a "dirtier" color, if that makes any sense. $15/frag:<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/UJMEv3EmHV2QRUDrq3oaiQ?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYPx6Zw2qI/AAAAAAAACmo/01-tBj-SYRE/s800/Pink%20poci.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

The one non-acro remaining:

Pink birdsnest with purple polyps (Source: Upscales). Likes lower light, which is why I have it sandwiched between two plating montis... maybe not the best plan for long-term growth, but oh well. $15/frag:<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/5A9T7dPgYZCx00T4jl-uNw?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYQBqkgZEI/AAAAAAAACn8/Pp2fDRhgT48/s800/Birdsnest.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

Now for some acros:

Lavender acro w/ purple polyps (Source: I think it came from kmagyar on RC, but not 100% sure). Very fast grower. Under lower light, the color darkens a bit. Branches were thicker before I bought my Tunzes and turned up the flow...:D . $15/frag:<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/sBrKVnNia_AImKeN6aHtyQ?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYPyaasHOI/AAAAAAAACms/5QTPVJMaYvo/s800/Lav%20acro.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

ORA Scripps Green Stag (Source: CHA swap). This is what remains of the parent colony I fragged up for the club Christmas party. Extremely fast grower. Takes on a sort of bushy overall shape when allowed to grow unmolested by fragging shears. Not the prettiest or most elegant coral, but a great space-filler in no time. Kind of the Leland Cypress of the reef... $15/frag: <table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/V9BuxzdeUP-__Ng23k85sw?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYP8NRZDXI/AAAAAAAACnc/Hh0ZPqxgUdg/s800/ORA%20Scripps.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

Tyree LE Ponape Torch (Source: Atlantis Aquarium in CA). Fast-growing, nice purple color. I've never been able to get the level of color saturation on my colony that Atlantis shows on their website. Polyps near the growth tips are a nice magenta-purple, more saturated in color than the body. Had some trouble getting a good angle on the photo for this one, but if you're interested, check out my sales thread from last year's swap for some photos from before this part of my tank was so overgrown. $20/frag:<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/UFOmRLO8z2qj5QAaJ45YDA?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYP7WQk37I/AAAAAAAACnY/YtDXpGy-qkg/s800/Ponape%20torch.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

More acros:

Purple A. abrotanoides (Source: DD on DFS). I used to call this my pink A. abrotanoides, but then it turned purple when I switched to Radium bulbs last year... seems like the color of this species changes pretty easily depending on the lights you use. The thing I like about this coral is that the branches are massively thick for a stag - gives it a real hefty look. $20/frag:<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/fmcxAqcnpqAo1Gs8DAgyxA?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYP0XIdBpI/AAAAAAAACm4/6NzmfB1iuhU/s800/A%20abrot.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

Larry Jackson Purple Tip acro (Source: CHA frag swap). Very fast grower. Forms a massive, inverted conical base with a crown of purple-tipped branches. The brighter the light, the deeper purple the tips become. Here's a couple shots of the parent colony. $20/frag:<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Hk6gO68jYOHlFEIQHux8mg?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYQAzGkQ0I/AAAAAAAACn4/Kngf7VoG29Q/s800/LJ%20Purple%201.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table><table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/cp6DscjU_YNlh5pohOjGag?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYP851NHgI/AAAAAAAACnk/wNFQBikHwjk/s800/LJ%20Purple%202.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

kmagyar's Incredible Hulk (Source: kmagyar on RC). Note that this is probably *not* the same "Incredible Hulk" that is commonly drooled over in the SPS forum - Magyar has posted that it is just a coincidence that he had given his colony the same name (I think he named his first, actually). Has an interesting growth form - sort of gangly branches. It's mostly bright green, but the tips are paler, with purple polyps. Here's a couple shots. $20/frag:<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/2e1ErbVTWR9kGsgZOKUerQ?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYP_Uth0yI/AAAAAAAACnw/L_hIdVzXJAc/s800/Hulk%201.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table><table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/fQvXgt4kOTTKlkK3zDGiqg?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYPzaXDQ3I/AAAAAAAACm0/YyVtJ6aQKJI/s800/Hulk%202.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

Even more acros:

Green a. austera (Source: Dr. Mac's). Dr. Mac said he thought this is what is referred to as a Miyagi tort, but I've seen other photos of those and I'm not so sure. Color is a pretty, semi-translucent green, with fairly massive branches. Polyps are a beautiful cyan or sky blue, but small. Medium speed grower. $20/frag:<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/FUfq3BWCMOGJF6_OwiHVuA?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYQIZ5QK2I/AAAAAAAACoY/2Dw44UJ_zV0/s800/Miyagi%20tort.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

Furry green stag with blue tips (Source: Upscales). Polyps a sort of a pistachio green and they cover the thick-branched body, making it look a bit furry. Took a while for it to start growing in my tank, but is pretty fast now. Colony is the one in the center and left side of this shot. $20/frag:<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/hVWVRy_nbFCjrrTq2kNjLw?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYP2GttlmI/AAAAAAAACnA/I1ixh4oz2-0/s800/Fuzzy%20green.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

Atlantis Aquarium's Ultimate Purple Stag (Source: Atlantis). Relatively fast grower. The Atlantis website says they think it is the same species as the Green Slimer (a. youngei). $25/frag:<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/nncVpXnhqWwhRFmNUJHQLg?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYPuyq49_I/AAAAAAAACmY/mA509p7Pfzs/s800/Ult%20purple.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

Last two, also acros:

Atlantis Raspberry Lemonade (Source: Atlantis). One of my favorites because of its subtle colors. Relatively fast grower, in a bushy growth form. This is a better specimen to keep toward the front of the tank, where the subtle colors can be appreciated up close. Does well at the bottom of my tank in moderate light. $35/frag:<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Rw7oRa3if8dwhCC-eQ47Mg?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYPtkLt8tI/AAAAAAAACmQ/pSBe2wfR5UA/s800/Rasp%20Lemon.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

Tyree LE Pink Lemonade (Source: cee here on RC). Another favorite, not only because the colors are spectacular, but also because yellow corals are not so common. Pretty fast grower - this colony was a small frag just a year ago. $45/frag:<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/ZEOu9doarkzxliTzdlUY6g?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_HHb66cEWg7Y/SiYP56NV4gI/AAAAAAAACnQ/0_PhVVEfWfA/s800/Pink%20Lemon.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/jemoersch/ETRCSwap09?feat=embedwebsite">ETRC Swap 09</a></td></tr></table>

The stuff I've listed is less than half of what I have in my tank, so if you saw something else in one of the photos that you're interested in, let me know. Again, please confirm all purchases with me by the 13th if you want to get them at the swap. Of course, you can always contact me after I get back from my trip if you're willing to come pick up frags at my place in West Knox.

Thanks for looking.

Wow, those pocilloporas are awesome! I knew I'd eventually find some SPS I like. :)

Welcome to the dark side... :strooper:

Wow, those pocilloporas are awesome! I knew I'd eventually find some SPS I like. :) Good luck with the sales!
They're about the easiest SPS to keep - very tolerant, and grow like weeds, almost to the point of being nuissance corals. Just the other day I noticed a frag of the raspberry poci has started growing on one of the Locline nozzles on my return line from the sump. The parent has never been in that part of the tank, so it didn't just encrust over there - must have been some free-floating larvae (or whatever you call them for corals) just took root there. I also have a couple green poci frags that have popped up in a couple other places in the tank.

Would you like to try one Joel?... :strooper:

Jane - got you down for a Pink Lemonade - thanks for the purchase. I'll make sure Randy has it at the swap.

Mel - thanks for the compliment. I'd really like to host a club meeting so folks can see my tank, but Sarah thinks it would just be too much to handle right now with the baby. Maybe in a few months. We're finishing our basement and putting in a bar and a "fish room" so it'll be that much better a place to host a meeting in a few months.

Hey Jeff,

Put me down for a piece of the fire Monti if you can get a piece:).

Gary - will do. But you have to humor me and refer to it as the Volunteer Orange Monti, at least in this thread...:)

Thanks Jeff, but I'll pass for now... I'm setting up a bit bigger second reef tank after we move and will contact you for a hot pink one then.

Welcome to the dark side... :strooper:
The force is strong with this one. ;) I knew I couldn't dislike all coral that happened to have small polyps - I'm just not into 'colored sticks.' Maybe it's just acros and millis I'm not a fan of...

Well, pocilloporas are pretty hardy, and do well in lower light conditions.. :) They grow like mad too... I would encourage you to give them a try... Then I'll point you toward some nice Stylophoras as well, and it will be too late... ;) You're hooked... :strooper:

Lack of light or water quality isn't the problem... it's lack of space. I'd want to grow a big colony of them... I'm not a fan of the little-phallus-sps common in nanos. There's no room in my tank for something like that... I can be patient and wait until after we move.

Sorry for the diversion Jeff!
