Volcano club

Sorry this doesn't really add anything useful here, but I think I have a reef tank smaller than that skimmer.... Very impressive (the skimmer, not my tank) :D

Anyone here heard from Spazz lately? I'm still trying to get in contact with him.

I was just thinking the same thing. I left a voicemail for him yesterday morning and haven't heard back.

My volcano will be here Friday. He is very busy so I would be patient and attempt him again. That is what I did when I was thinking of purchasing one.

I have contacted him 3 times in the last month with no reply. How much more patient can one be?

I gotta say... over the time I have known Tom, I would have to say he's most likely one of the more patient and understanding people I know... for gosh sakes... he's got kids...lol. I have always seen him as rather reserved, and not outspoken... so to get him 'fed up'... well... thats not easy. Tom said what he wanted was something that didnt need tinkering or constant adjustment... 'plug & play' so to speak. My hope is that with the addition of the Alita, it will finally be what it should be. The only gripe then, would be the fact that this need wasnt disclosed up front, and that the solution was to simply get a 'here are some parts, see what you can do' solution. I think that if the need for a linear pump was disclosed up front... well... nobody could complain. But to be told 'its all good' only to figure out later on its not and have your system start to crash on you... well... Id be upset too. Not everyone has an airflow meter to see for themselves whats REALLY GOING ON, you know? Its a simple $200 solution that could have been disclosed before it cost $1000's in livestock damage. Tom ALMOST was aggrivated enough with his tank's direction that he almost threw in the towel over this. I know the proponents of Volcanoes out there would like to mitigate the problem, but it is what it is. FWIW, I am still a fan overall... I think the Volcanoes are one of the best built and bang for the buck skimmers out there... IF THEY ARE FORCE FED. They may not be a cone body skimmer... and IMO the body could take more than 5000lph of air if a better pump was made available, but they are still a much better value than say... a BK500 at 4000lph of air which costs $5000.

All the talk about Lagunas and Sicces for a skimmer that isnt even a Volcano. Yes, Spazz made it, but its from before the 'Volcanoes' which so far have been ReefFlo powered. Otherwise, Bill Wann's 30" diameter 'mega skimmers' might be considered topical as well...lol. No big deal... just thinking that maybe a 'Volcano club' thread might deal more with Volcanoes... thats all.

Rude. It was a volcano at the time it was built. Now they have been revised and are much different. What will happen to the models you guys have in a few months if Spazz changes the design again?? Will you lose the right to post??

You ask your questions and I'll ask mine. I'm not bothering you am I??

Thats news to me. Im sorry... I didnt know those 'pre ReefFlo' models were considered Volcanoes as well. I remember him making some with oceanrunners, but I seem to remember aquatic acrylics and the whole Volcano sticker/brand coming after that. Not that its of huge interest to me, but I just didnt want to have the thread get too sidetracked... no harm though.

I got it because his name was associated with it. Had it been Bill Wann's name, I still would have taken it. Had it been another company like Deltec or something of that nature, then I highly doubt I would have traded off my other skimmer for it.... I just want to make it more efficient, very similar to what Spazz did as his skimmers evolved.

Sorry Tom, should have read the whole thread before bringing up patience. My bad. Reading this thread makes me a little nervous. I got an alita al-40 for the skimmer. Will this work well and will my skimmer work well. I don't wan to get into a situation where pulling my H&S causes a lot of problems.

Sorry if it appeared I was upset at you...it wasn't meant to sound that way. All I want people to know is that Spazz has been very poor at getting back to some people in a timely manner. As of right now he has not responded to me. I know of others who have contacted me that have had the same issues.

I am waiting for my air pump to arrive so I can't persoanlly speak on what difference this will make. Hahn seems to think things should improve so I should be able to tell in a few days. Personally I would NOT get rid of your old skimmer before the Volcano proves itself. I sold my old skimmer soon after installing mine. That's when I noticed my tank was going downhill and Spazz started scrambling trying to find a solution. Nothing he sent me worked and the tank continues to go down. I have lost numerous sps colonies. I hope you have better luck than I did.

I can't remember if he told me as it was so long ago. Sorry, but I really have no idea. Tom - I am really sorry to hear about your situation. At the same time, I am pretty nervous now. Please keep me posted on how the air pump helps.
