Voltage Leak

How could I check for a small voltage leak in my tank?

with a volt meter...not to be sarcastic...What makes you want to check for a voltage leak? And do you want to check the receptacle or the actual equipment thats running?

I am trouble shooting the recent sprial of my once beautiful tank full of Zoas and Pallys. Someone asked my if I could elliminate a voltage leak and I am not sure how to do it??

I need to know as well.. But if it helps, I have had LOTS of stray voltage in my hob fuge for some time now. The other day it was BAD. I just cut my nails so I think the more sensitive skin underneath that was now exposed exagerated it, but I literally had to pull my hand it shocked me so bad! But my point is, it has not yet negatively affected any coral or fish that I can see..,.

The answer was provided by Sushiluver on another thread, so here is the answer on how to test.

the best way to 'test' for it is to take a volt meter, (the cheap kind will do), set it to AC voltage, (the squiggly line), and set the 'scale' to 120-200 volts.

Then touch one probe to ground, (the screw on the switch plate?) and put the other probe into the water. If the meter moves at all, not good.

If the meter moves then start unplugging things, ONE at a time until the meter doesnt move.

Please keep in mind, this is a wild *** guess, based on little to no info, just trying to eliminate things..
