Vortec WWD Constant Red LED

remember

In Memoriam
Well, I installed the WWD last night and it worked fine until this morning, when the impeller was stopped and the Red LED was constantly on. I unplugged the DC supply and waited for 10 min, plugged it back in and no dice. I now have my old driver on and it works fine. I sent Ecotech a tech request, but I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem. Any ideas?

Mine lasted less than 30 seconds. I am sure the tech guys can get it running, I was told that mine was only the second defect out of hundreds made. It would be implausable to have a third in such close timing ;) Get a commitment on the replacement shipping or just return it for credit and buy a new one, I have been waiting a week for the replacement.

This constant red LED issue is a new one to us. We will get to your request immediately on Monday morning and take care of your issue as soon as possible.

With any new product there are bound to be odd little issues pop up. So far the defect rate on the WWD has been very very good, however I will admit that this red LED occurence seems to have just popped up over the last several days! We are looking into it as we speak and will take care of you.

Thanks Tim. On a positive note the one that is working is making a nice wave in my 90 gal and the pump is in a back corner. Also still running very quiet!

That's good to hear! We are very proud of the WWD and are glad that you are enjoying it.

Hang in there, Sherman and remember, the OP, we'll get you guys up and running as quickly as possible. We appreciate your support and patience.

Ok, I think I figured out the red LED issue. When unplugging the cable from the WD to the WWD, I must have pulled too hard on the white wire so that it was only hagging on by 1 or two threads.

Because, the morning that I saw it stalled/red LED, I plugged it back into the WD and it worked until I saw the white wire completely detached.

I soldered the white wire to the pin/board on the old WD.

I choose to solder it on the WD, instead of the WWD, beacuse I plan to try Giovanni's DIY for connecting my Profilux to the Vortec for complete control including power down at night & waves. Giovanni's thread was for the Neptune contoller, but I'm fairly certian the WD can be controlled by the Profilux with slight changes.

Sorry, but I did not solder the white wire to the WWD board to check it out, I'm just assuming it was the white wire. Let me know if you want me to check it. Otherwise, I plan to sell it after my controller DIY (after making sure that it works of course).

Everyone - Let me know if there is interest out there for a DIY thread.

And...the 'defect' looks like it is the fact that the multi-wire connector on the board holds the plug too tight, lest it be my ape-like strength & dexterity. Perhaps there is a plastic tool to help making this connection that can be included with the WWD.

remember-

We do state in the WWD instructions not to pull on the plug by the cord itself because this type of thing is likely to occur. I'm glad you have it figured out though, and that it was not a driver related issue.
