Looking for any feedback on the mp20 or 40, seems expensive but feature looks sweet. users with pros and cons, mucho appreciado

MP40W here. Awesome. Controller allows lots of options, battery backup option is great. New feature-nightmode is nice.

Cons- can tear tissue off coral thats too close, very powerful, or is power a good thing. :).

MP20 here

Pro: good power, dial control adjust flow, easy to program, night mode, makes it very easy to achieve random water movement in the tank

Cons: price

I do not have one, but been researching them for awhile.
When they work, they are the best, but they have their share of problems.
They also have no option for external control.

If you buy one, make sure it has a serial number.
Some vendors are removing them and Vortech will not honor the warranty.

Also when you get one, make sure to send Vortech a email with the serial number so you can see if you have the last-est parts.

They have been having a lot of problems and there is a lot of different versions out there.
Better to have the correct parts before putting them in your system.

My 2 cent.

As far as I know there is the old Gen 1. and the new Gen 2. If you get a new one and not a used one you shouldn't have any problems with anything.

Would you mind linking to where you heard all of this. Since I plan on getting another, I don't want to run into any problems.

I bought one 3 weeks ago...have heard from alot of people how quiet they are etc...I dont think its that quiet. the controller makes it super flexible..multiple flow timings and patterns. its very expensive. but its a quality product, good service. I only have one on my 150 (48 long, 24 deep, 30 tall (I think)). It stirs up the debris on the rock very well. great water movement throughout the entire tank.

The First article I agree with the buyer from ebay. It shouldnt matter where you buy the item! Eco should stand behind their product, even if the serial # is not on there. Thats like buying a new car off ebay from the dealership and saying you dont have a warranty since you bought it on ebay...On the other hand no serial # is not like having a VIN on a car, but you can still go to the DMV and get that resolved. If they are going to charge that much for a pump it is to be expected to get them cheaper somewhere else, but its still made by Eco.

I think they are awesome looking and do very well for circulation in tanks. The LFS has 2 of them on their 180 display and they look and move the water great! But even the owner said they are loud. I would like to get a couple myself but will wait until they are proven to be reliable, I have heard to many stories of them either stop working or problems that come up.

This is JMO on them as everyone is entitled to that!

Thanks

I have the mp 10 on pre order for my 29gal Biocube.I mainly have sps with some zoas, rics, and a crocea clam on the sand bed.I currently have a Tunze 6025 a Koralia nano for cross flow against the Tunze, and the stock return pump.I have about 45 lbs of live rock in the tank, all pumps together equal out to about 1,143gph.The sand bed is not disturbed. My question to you vortech owners would you purchase the mp 10 and still be able to run the Tunze?I am assuming the spread of the flow of the mp 10 to be more concentrated since it is smaller than the mp20.Or should I just purchase the mp 20 and remove the rest of the power heads from the tank. Some opinions and different views might help my decision,I do not plan on upgrading tanks I am satisfied with my Biocube.I know the difference of flow between the two is about 500gph,just thinking the broader flow may be more benefecial.any thoughts/opinions would be appreciated.drtrash sorry not trying to hijack your thread.

Thanks for posting the threads Luis.

But if you buy stuff off E-bay you have to expect that stuff. That is the risk you take buying from and unlicensed dealer.

As for the 2nd thread I dont think customer service could have possibly been any better.

As for the 3rd, I think all pumps have some form of problem occasionaly.

In the end I think most people will have positive things to say about the Vortechs.

pros- profile, quality

cons- lack of directional control, inability to work on 1" acrylic, lack of directional control, lack of directional control, noise, lack of directional control. lack of directional control

Until they fix the lack of directional control thing the tunze are simply a superior tool unless you are running them as supplements to tunze and or a cls

I up until last fall when I upgraded my tank to 1" acrylic was running a couple of mp40's along with a couple of tunze and a OM 8way. I liked them a lot and would still be using them if they worked on 1" acrylic, but I would never use them as the sole means of flow in the tank. I have this funny quirk about needing to truly control what happens with my water flow

some guy the other day was wanting to get rid of his koralias and go with just vortechs. I told him if the decision was mine II would keep the koralias or upgrade to tunze as either can do a better job if you are one to really pay attention to what is happening in the tank. jmho

90 degrees from any given point on any wall is all you get

all it would take is to make the magnets much stronger, and even only a few different angles of shims for both dry and wet side for choices of angle to make all the difference in the world. this would fix the 1" acrylic issue at the same time

I have modded my tunze to point at any direction desired, and it is fairly simple to do. There is no mods I can think of besides what I just said that could allow the same luxury to the vortechs

i run vortech, korilla, and tunze in my tank. I personally love my vortech. it was not as loud as i expected and the flow is amazing. however it is a bit overprice. but i am still in the market for another lol.

i used my vortech as the main flow and the tunze/korilla are there for the direction flow.

I have 2 MP20 in my 55 tank. I love them. Quiet, different setting for motor speed, night and feed mode. Most important the motor is outside of the tank. This makes it smaller and less heat.
