vortech MP40 question

I have had 2 MP40 vortechs running on my reef for over 2 months now, and I really do like them. The other night one of them started running loudly. Only when it was on of course; very loud in fact, I could hear it all through the house. I took it out and soaked it in water and vinegar overnight and hooked it back up this AM, still noisy. I have tried adjusting it on the glass and nothing seems to make it any better.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I would take the wet side assembly completely apart and soak all the small parts in vinegar and make sure they are clean and free of deposits rather than soaking the entire assembly. Keep track of all the parts. Put it back together. Dont overtighten the nut. If it is still noisy, send in for warranty repair.

If it is the outside motor that all of a sudden became noisy, it may just have an issue that isnt related to the wet side unit. But I would clean as above first just to be sure.

May want to ask in the Ecotech forum ... be more specific about the noise. What is noisy (motor or wet assembly) and type of noise.

Are you sure there wasn't a snail or something in there. 1 time mine started making noise at night and I couldn't see the snail. I finally saw him with a flashlight, but it took a few minutes before I realized what was going on.

to determine if it is the dryside or wetside, try swapping the wetside to the other vortech & see if the noise follows. that should tell ya if the noise is coming from the dryside or wetside
