Vortech, Neptune, Gyre or ???

i was thinking buy 2 of those $150 icecap gyre and putting one on each side and have them operating in opposition if i can.not sure if thats a good idea or how i can control them.

If you don't need to sell the 40's to fund the 60's, this would be a killer setup with the 40's on the back wall.

Gyres really move water. two xf150s (or whatever they call them now) would also do a great job.

I have two neptune WAVs which replaced two MP-40s. They are quieter and require less maintenance (and never come out of alignment), but have a much larger in tank profile and produce a narrower flow profile. They sit on the back wall of my 135 (48"x24") and a gyre 150 sits on one side wall. If I was buying new, I'd go with the MP-40 QDs over the WAVs

You have a Gyre along with 2 x WAVs? I have a 36x30 tank, and am having a hard time getting good flow throughout, and was thinking about getting a Gyre to move mass amounts of the water around, and the WAVs for targeted movement and/or surface agitation, but wasn't sure if the two types of flows would play nice together. It looks like you have this setup, would you recommend it?

I do like it. The gyre definitely does its job well. I have it high on the right wall. I have both WAVs mid way up the back wall on either side of my center overflow. The only dead spot is to the right of the overflow because the WAVs aren't nearly as good as the vortechs at drawing water up from beneath them. If I could do it again I'd stick with the vortechs. Alternatively, if my tank was viewed primarily from the front, I'd just add another gyre to the left panel and never worry about flow again. The left panel is the first side you see when entering the room, so I want to keep it clean and unobstructed. Moral of the story is I really love the flow the gyre provides

Great info... Thanks! I might give it a go...

I have 2 gyre 200 series. At first, they're really loud but, they do quiet in a few days to a week. They move a ton of water. I have a corner tank. So,I'm still trying to find their sweet spots. I'm used to Koralia type PH's. I can move them wherever I'd like. The Gyres a very directional.Dead spots are genuinely minimal. I prefer the Gyre settings. That setting seems to have the best adjustment capabilities. I hope that helps??
