Vortech Pump or IKA Stirrer

I have a a magnetic stirrer lying around someplace. You think if I put some fins on the stir magnet and turn the base sideways I'd have a home made Vortech?

Without fins, a magnetic stirrer isn't really designed to push water forward, but instead will swirl it around. Attaching fins to push it forward sounds tricky, and possibly dangerous to fish.

no..no..no...i'd make a cover for it. I think I'll epoxy a small plastic fan blade to the stir magnet. :crazy1:
