Vortech reccomendation

Very simple how many and what model. 36x18x24. After doing some research some people online go with mp 40 and uses less power rather then running mp10 full blast. It seems though no matter how good they are it is impossible to replace two powerheads with just one maybe not. I guess I could still use I korallia and one mp10/40?

I would just go with the 40. More than you need but not much more money and you wont be running at 100% if you chose ecotech.

I would also consider for that size a gyre, or for the money, an icecap gyre.

I would likely go with the icecap imo at 149 and done. though I have not used icecap.
I do run a total of 9 maxspect gyres

I would do this and put the icecap on the back of the tank. Or get two and put one on each end but even on lowest setting that might be too much for a 40b.

+1 to everything said so far :D about the icecap's.
However I found great success with a Hydor wave-maker with a pair of 750-850 GPH Hydor's Koralia's. I'm not saying it was a perfect combo but it offered a superb degree of flexibility flow wise (raising, lowering, and shaping the tank current). I wouldn't go with the larger Hydor pumps in a 40B, due to the water mass and glass thickness available to buffer the motors wind-up's. The larger pumps would prove to be loud and annoying over time IMO.

:D cheers to everyone.

Well I have figured a solution that doesn't blow any sand. I have the 1500gph newer korallia now on the right side glass top. The og korallia with the wide flow back glass left side by over flow. Return both pointing right side tank. Not much different but tank is 65g

I really like the flow of the gyres. I've thought about ditching all the vortechs and just going with gyres.
I wish someone would come out with a way to be able to mount the gyre vertically and allow it to oscillate. I keep hoping/waiting for Sea Swirl to come out with one. A couple of gyres, mounted vertically in opposite corners of the tank, and oscillating ... It wouldn't necessarily be pretty, but I don't think flow could get much better.

Great idea. I might give this a try.

Design a mount to allow it to oscillate? If you do design one, I'll take two.
I think I saw something once on the fishstreet website that was made to oscillate powerheads. But I don't think I could mod it to work with a gyre. I'd think it would need some form of support at the bottom.
I just have mine at the top of one end of the tank pulsing every 6 seconds.
