vortech vs gyre and placement

so i'm in the process of setting up a new tank (31 long, by 16 deep by 19 high), left side overflow.

my plan is mostly softies and lps, maybe a nem, and maybe some easy sps. i haven't been keeping up on the new gear too much and all the reading i've been doing seems people have mixed opinions. so, if anyone has firsthand experience, i'd really appreciate your input.

so my questions are: should i get 2 mp10's, or 1 mp40, or a gyre? or a gyre and an mp10? i already have 1 mp10.

also, i'd like thoughts on placement of the pumps. should i put the 2 mp10's (if i go that way) on the back wall? or both on one side? or 1 on each side?

if i go gyre, should it go horizontal near the water surface, or vertical on the back wall?

thanks guys, really appreciate your help!:fish1:

EDIT TO ADD:
P.S. Does anyone have any extra E-Marco 400 cement/mortar?? WTB some. Thanks!

Personaly I prefer the pointability of tunze but if you already have a MP10, I’d stick with those and go wireless. Those pumps do amazing things. You are doing LPS and softies so flow isn’t that critical like with SPS where you are trying to break a barrier layer. All you’re doing is getting some motion and moving water around. 2XMP10’s should be good for the tank you are describeing.

I agree with sticking to MPs if you already have one so you can do sync/antisync modes. Like 556, I'm also a tunze fan. As far as 2 MP10s go, it should work with no issue for LPS and Softies. If you think you will ever try SPS, then MP40+MP10 would be worth it.

I have no experience with Gyre, but from what I've read, please usually love them, or hate them. That's why you see lots of barely used for x months sale threads.

thanks guys, i appreciate your input. i have noticed a lot of gyres in the marketplace.

so, does it matter where i position the mp10s? together on one side? opposite sides? both on the back wall? doesn't matter? i've never really had to give this any thought before now.

I like 1 on each end near the top not pointed at each other on antisync reefcrest mode.

I can't comment on the MPs, but if you look around, you'll find those for sale and complaints as well. I've never owned, but if you've already got one, I'd roll with it. I have 13 year old Tunze streams that still work, they're great and worth the money. I have a gyre150, I think they're good too. They move a ton of water and don't take up much space. You do have to be a bit more diligent about cleaning them however.

2 mp10s over 1 large pump, 1 on each side of the tank
