Vrolik's Wrasse Died Suddenly with hole in stomach?

I came home the other day and found my Vrolik's wrasse sitting on bottom of the tank. This fish is normally cruising around the tank and checking everything out.

On closer inspection, i found to have a grey growth or something on his stomach just in front of his fins. I came home today to find him dead.

The growth appeared gone but i did see a large whole in his stomach area. See pic.

Any thoughts on what this could be? It happened so fast.

What else do you have in the tank?

do you mean fish? if so, nothing else that i would would do that to him. He is pretty much the boss of the tank. But just in case, yellow tang, hippo tang, copperbanded butterfly, mystery wrasse (small), foxface, damsel, white cheek tang.

As far as inverts, few emeralds, two cleaner shrimp, and some hermits.

i'm undecided if this was an attack or an infection.

There are parasitic worms that actually eat their way out of a fish as part of its life cycle. There was one in S.A. that was eating through people too; I don't know why I remember this. I would dose your tank with Prazi-Pro, a wormer. Its safe and the only med I'd ever use in a stocked reef tank. It will kill feather dusters, though. Your enemy probably isn't one of these worms, but PP kills flukes and lots of other common worms too. I use it on all new fish.
