Wagon's REEF

seesick

Michael wagner
I want to create a system profile thread to capture the continued growth of my tank and I encourage other people to do the same. I think it would be nice to show the world what us landlocked High-desert reef enthusiasts have to offer the aquatic world out there.

Please feel free to post your comments pictures or whatever you would like"¦..
So here we go!!!!

Da tank

mainTANKcopy.jpg

The tank is a 72 gallon bow front sps dominated. B.B. two part, low nutrient system.

Tank.jpg

The aquascape is inspired by Thor’s bonsai reef method.
current filtration:
bubble magus, SC7 skimmer,
two little fish’s media reactor with neozeo media,
BRS GFO-Carbon reactor (GFO replaced monthly, and carbon replaced bi-weekly).
Other equipment:
an aqua medic reef dozer for alkalinity and calcium.
JBJ arctic chiller
Neptune aqua controller jr. with PH probe
The lighting is a customized Hamilton hood
46 ½ inch VHO tubes powered by an icecap 660 (actinic),
2 -15K - 250 watt metal halide, PFO ballest
1-20k-400 watt metal halide overdriven with an HQI ballast.
Water movement (flow) is done by
3 vortexes 40’s
3 tunzi nano streams.
I use a five stage water RO/DI system.
Currently I am dosing 2ml micro-bacter7 and using vodka as a carbon source (soon to switch to biofuel).
More info to follow so stay tuned…..

Looks great! Love the aquascape and the ambient lighting on the stand.

Definetly need to see some closeup pics.

What two part additives are you using?

lighting question.

lighting question.

from your equipment listed, i'm a bit of a newbe but am I to understand that this quantity and color spectrum listed would be quite a bit of antanic blue color?

2 -15K - 250 watt metal halide, PFO ballest
1-20k-400 watt metal halide overdriven with an HQI ballast.

if that is a high amount of of blue light is that especially helpful for the SPS coral?

I had recently purchased a new lighting system but asked the sales rep to help me "spread" the color spectrum out a bit to help perhaps flesh out more colors.

That is just his actinics on ..see his other pics (other thread) they have white light right seesick?
gotta luv the BRS rox carbon and gfo saves sooo much money I just recently switched but want to try the high performance gfo next!

Yes, rigen you are correct actinic only plus I suck at takein pictures"¦..wanted to try and capture light under the tank..

The 250 MH are actually more like 12K, not 15 like originally stated. They are phoenix bulbs don't know the exact temp on them.

Good product low dust to no dust on both carbon and GFO. I use the Ferric Oxide pellets, and the small pellet rox carbon, actually I buy a lot of stuff from them. Good company....GROUP BUY..

The carbon has great surface area and "tumbles" really well in a reactor..carbon removes gebelstoff(spelling i think), organics , colors ..keeps water contaminates chemically or organically, down improves clarity and overall quality of water (within reason of course)..Gfo is granular ferric oxides (synthethic i believe from what phos-ban claims) it bottom line binds phosphate really well keeping algae blooms to a minimum and improving water quality as well( too high of phosphates will impede coral calcification)..It works really well "tumbling" in a reactor to obtain maximum performance and reaction time..
If that helps X

For sure group buy !!I have some left but can go through quite a bit in 2) 550 reactors..I just love this cheap reactor but hate the lid getting stuck everytime!!

This is probably a stupid question, but was are the advantages of the gfo and carbon. Also what is neozeo?

Not stupid, the only stupid question is the one that is not asked"¦. Rigan has got it (your questions) pretty well covered. I will just add a little GFO is just iron oxide and it absorbs the phosphates in your system. NeoZeo is the media used in a low nutrient system it absorbs nutrients and gives the bacteria that is put in to the system a place to live. I will show you when you come over for Coral nite.. Also Gomer will probably put up some good links to check-out"¦.

No stupid questions right? What is Coral nite?

What is Coral nite?

Coral Night is a small group of friends that get together for Beers, and Coral Talk (SPS) no biggeee. Wait! IT IS A BIGGEE; good friends, good beer, and good coral conversation. In the past we called ourselves the coral crew and had a lot of fun with it. We are going to hang out in a few weeks and a couple of new guys are going to come hang out. They want to get some frags from the guys. It should be entertaining to say the least.

seesick, great looking tank. Looking forward to seeing more. With so much light and flow, do you have anything in there other than SPS?
