Well my Clownfish were TRYING to lay eggs on Monday night. They kept trying until 12:00PM and then I went to bed. There breeding tubes didn't go down, but they were for sure trying very hard! The female was putting he lower belly on the previously cleaned rock and twitching while the male was helping clean. The male would put his lower belly on the rock where the female had put hers and he would act as though fertilizing eggs. That was the 1st time they had tried, so I think after a few times they'll get it. They'll try again on February 13th or 14th (probably 13th due to new moon). I took some amazing video of them trying to spawn. The male was doing the clownfish waggle and they would both put their mouths on the rock while sticking straight up in the water and aggressively bite it. The male had chose a rock, but the female chose a new one due to their new 14"+ anemone being their new host. The new rocks is a very good choice since it isn't a base rock and I'll be able to get the fry from that tank to the hatchery that I'll set up all at the same time while still in water. I'll let everyone know next time the attempt and I'll post the video footage of them trying tomorrow. Keep in mind that this was their very first attempt and they're new to this. They just need a few weeks of practice and they should have it down within a month at least! :bounce3:
They are also experiencing new behaviors after their attempt. The female chased the male around for about 20 seconds yesterday. Eventually she bit him too much and he did his little submissive dance. :fun2:
During their attempt the female also experienced head twitching which I though was weird. The female has been really fat since Monday so I'm guessing their next attempt will be successfully laid eggs... although the male may not fertilize until he gets the hand of it... :sad1:
So I guess I'll have some baby Black Ocellaris in a few months and hopefully I'll be able to raise them... They're just the cutest little couple ever! :love2:
