Walking Zoanthid Frag

This is by far my favorite frag in my tank. Sometimes it takes me a minute to find it a it likes to walk around and hide. It also likes to clean my other frags.

I wouldn't keep it in a tank with only a few frag as it will probably over stress them. But if you have hundreds of polyps, removing a few doesn't cause any damage.

I might have to start adding more zoas then. Or get a small frag rack for the stuff that I wouldn't want bothered.

Not to get off topic, but it seems that the trend is for people to buy 1 or 2 polyp frags. I won't keep this crab in a tank with dozens of two polyp frags because it will probably decimate many of them. I have a few small frags with on 1 inch disks and for the most part he leaves them alone. It makes sense if you think about it because in the wild it would be bad camouflage practice to take the rarer corals when there are large colonies that are easier to blend into. This guy adds so much personality to the tank that it would have to cause some serious problems for me to remove it.

I appreciate the input. I only have 1 one polyp frag (that is of any "value") at the moment and I am in the process of cycling a new tank, so it's not even a possibility for me to pick currently. But it wouldn't be a big deal to move the frag out of his reach. Your idea of him picking at colonies to blend in, does make a lot of sense though.

After seeing your video, I watched a couple more of them and if I had a crab as active and entertaining as that, I would have a lot of trouble kicking him out as well.

Back on topic, I can not believe how much stuff yours has piled on to himself.

I had one of these before, the entertainment value was great! Definitely make sure you have a nice, large zoa colony. Mine grew fast & always tried to get new zoas instead of reusing the ones from the molt & had to be encouraged. His fav pasttime was getting to the highest rock, taking 5 minutes to gather his nerve, then bonzai off the edge & float to the bottom, immediately running right back up. He'd do that for an hour or two at a time. He was orange & always wore the orange polyps. I later got a burgundy female after a tank crash, and she did nothing but wear sponge on her head, no fun stuff.
