Want to setup a frag tank

Hi all,

I want to setup a frag tank and I am looking for some ideas.

Currently I have a 10, 30, 55 and 120 all somewhat empty, I say somewhat because there is a 4' stake in the 30g. My current plan is to put the snake in the 55 and use the 30 for the frag tank.

Would it be a bad or good idea to utilize the sump that currently runs on my 90g display tank? Sharing I would save on a skimmer, heaters and the chiller. They are large enough to handle the additional load.

Or should I set up a entirely new setup. None of my tanks are drilled, is it cheaper to buy a rr or drill the tank. My display tank is mixed with softies, lps and sps. Down side would be that everything in the display would possibly pollute the frag tank.

If combined I would be looking for a good MH pennant, if separate I would be looking for a skimmer as well as the lights and whatever I am going to use for a sump.

Any Ideas?

i would go with the 55 as a frag tank and make different levels with eggcrate for different corals and such, and if it were me i would link all the tanks together this way you can slowly add water to the tank and it will be cycled, it increases bioload and saves you money with equipment, also depending on the type frags you want i would think about a separate filtratration going in and out of the frag tank....wish i had the room to setup a frag tank....and since sps is the thing to do nowadays the filtration is almost a must.....what kind of skimmer do you have?

JMO but its always nice having a separate tank for this sort of thing because if you remove frags to treat for red bugs or something, they arent in your display.

This IS a hugh plus for setting up an entire new system. Downside of course is cost.

Another skimmer, another sump, more pumps, chiller? more rock ... etc

I would suggest combining the systems. And if need be set up a small QT tank for new acquisitions before placing them in the frag/ main tank display.
