Want to start breeding Fish

Consensus seems to be that banggai cardinals are the easiest as their fry come out fully formed. Then there are clowns and a few others possibly that lay eggs and go through a larval stage that require a bit more work but are still not too difficult.

Things that can affect your decision are do you want to try and sell them or just do it casually, which effects how big of a setup you need (just a pair or several), do you want to try and get into breeding different specific patterns or just propagate the species (Banggais are pretty much set in form, while clowns can have a huge variety of patterns and colors). Also have to consider your location and what is in demand there (some places you can unload all your young to lfs, others you may have to look harder or ship them in order to sell them all).

I will like to be seller someday, but for now I want to see if its something I can do. As far as setup I want to start small with two pair of something and try all the live food that will be needed for whatever fish I decide to get. Currently I have a 125 gallon reef with a basement sump/refu and its been running for 3 years. Am in Dayton Ohio area moved here about 10 years ago from the Caribbean, and really know the demand here.

Personally I think clowns are overdone... Everybody breeds them and there are tons of kinds. However, they are likely a good bet for your first try as they require a couple different foods and stuff. So maybe pick some nice clowns to try out and see his you like it first. Then if you want to continue you can look into what would be the easiest to sell in your area.
