Wanted: Acrylic

A little farther than I feel like driving. US Plastics has it for about $22 delivered. I was just hoping to find some leftover from a project. I'd like to have it in hand by the weekend. I'm planning to put the VHO's and T5's about 4" above the water and figure I should put a piece in between.

Industrial safety and supply in West Hartford stocks acrylic sheets .

Can the shap acrylics? Like heating them up and formining them into something?

If you are just using it as a splash guard, you only need thin stuff and I know that Home Depot carries it in all different sizes. I am pretty sure you can find what you need there.

So I am doing some reading and although I thought they were different, plexiglass and acrylic are the same thing. Some places say that plexiglass is just a brand name of acrylic. Others say that plexiglass is a more flexible, break-resistant form of acrylic. Any opinions on this?

I think Plexiglass is brand name of acrylic and just like anything else, there are different grades. For a splash guard, it should be fine. I have been using the Home Depot stuff as a splash guard on my 29.

Plexiglass, Acrylite ... it's all acrylic, just a brand name. The thing to watch for is cell-cast verses extruded. I think HD & Lowes, is extruded ... not 100% sure, but it looks like it. I'd have to cut a piece to be 100% sure. Cell-cast is much stronger and is not really needed unless it's going to hold water (needs some strength).

Either type will still curl up on the corners if you cover an aquarium (tank/sump) and heat the water to support warm water life. If this happens, just flip the piece over every few weeks. It's the combination of the moisture and the heat (from the water) that causes this. I have even tested this on 3/4" peices and it still alters the flatness.
