Hey guys,

Here's the start of my reef. It's about 4 months old. It's pretty sad now, but eventally id like it to look like some of yours.
I've got a few peices of acropora, montipora, zoanthids, and others and I just got a rose anemone for my clowns. They are much happier now.
What do you think of the aquascaping? Do I need more gaps and valleys and such? The live rock I got were huge so it was hard to design. Hope you like it!

I love your rock works, it looks very nice once you add a buch of corals. You are well on your way, just remember to not add too many corals at once especially the hard ones since your tank is not quite ready yet.

One sugestion is to move the cords and hide them behind your overflow. Put one of your powerhead up high and leave one where it is, you will get alot more flow because they are not fighitng one another.

I will definitely take care of the cords and power heads. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm thinking of blacking out the back too. It should make things pop out a bit. Also I'm using the reefkeeper2 as my wavemaker on those two power heads, should I still make the move? They alternate every two minutes.

Yeah I would because you want to move a mass of water and the best way is to have them create a gyre effect rather than fighting one another. I am not sure how long these pumps will last using the off and on controller like that that though.

Painting the back black is nice but, it will not pop the corals like you think, black absorb lights so your tank wont be as bright, but alot of people like black back ground for some reason. Try hanging different back ground color sheets in the back to find what you like best before paiting it.

I would be careful putting the hydors on a controller. They don't like to be turned on and off a lot. Your rockwork looks great, it will be fun to watch your tank progress. Great job!

Tap Plastic makes Black and Dark Blue heavy plastic sheets that are easy to cut and tape on. Then, you won't have to paint the tank. And, you can later change the color if you wish.

At our house, in the beginning, we bought Blue and Black and compared them. Everyone voted for Black.

Best of luck,

Roy

Great Ideas!
What power heads would you reccomend for the wave maker?
The Hydors make a lot of noise but there a good price, have low wattage and great flow, so I wasn't worried to much about them lasting long. It seems that Tunze is the most popular, but you have to user their controler right?

I have been using 2 MaxiJet 1200's for some time now, they are both connected to a ReefKeeper II, and cycle every 5 Minutes I believe. If you have the ReefKeeper programmed properly they will not fight each other because only one will be on at a time.
And I just added a pair of EcoMod's to them. These are great for those of us who are not great at DIY, and for $14.99 you can hardly beat them. And the flow is fantastic! And make little to no noise.

Nice job Taylor, now you just need to keep your perameters stable and when you start to see corraline alge growth and all your corals are doing really good, i think you could be a good canidate for our New Tank Warming frags. I've got a few for you when your ready. I love the mimic tang. Do your clowns host in the annemone? If you dont like the big live rock, i have about 160 lbs of rock (smaller peices than the ones you have) waiting for my 210 gallon to start up, that i would happily trade you pound for pound for some smaller peices if you want. Good job, and dont listen to Jake if he tells you not to do water changes. Ohhhhhh Snappps Yo jk... Jake....well mabe not....

Than you! I'm trying my best to keep everything stable. So far so good. The corraline alge is starting to creep all over. I have alot of pink and lime green corraline. It's so purtty! I just hope those colors will stay. I'm sure the purple will eventually take over.
I think I'm a good canidate for the frags. That would be awesome! So long as your ok with a give and not take thing. lol
At least for now. I'm ready when you are.
The clowns love the anemone. They sleep in it every night. It's so funny to watch. If i go anywhere near the anemone Mrs. clown attacks me.
Thanks for the rock offer, but I have to pass. I'm really enjoying them. I did a water change on Sunday and I'm gonna do one every 2 to 3 weeks from now on.
Talk to ya soon.
