Wanted...

So I'm guessing that if you don't frag it or keep track of it , the Xenia will become a pain. If it goes in my tank Paul the idea will be to suffocate it if it gets overgrown lol.

Suffocate it or it may suffocate you. I have some green star polyps. These are on a rock on my sandbed so it will not grow onto the reef. EVERYTHING that you put in your tank should be given full consideration for its future growth habits.

With regard to fish, I won't put ANYTHING in that I'm not SURE I want to keep til it dies. Once it's in it may not come out.

Just to give you all a heads up Josh was one of he guys that gave us a bunch of corals for one of our meets. He would be one of the last person to hurt the hobby, a great guy. IMO
Please before you say something about someones actions on a public forum try a PM.
Oh does any body want any Devils Hand. LOL

i hope you guys didn't take what i said the wrong way. i didn't say you shouldn't throw it in the yard to be judgemental. its just not something i've been faced with. if you can't get rid of it you can't get rid of it. you gotta do what ya gotta do.

you gotta realize i won't even kill a spider in the house. lol
i will take it outside. that stuff drives my wife crazy.

i don't even like killing aptasia but i still do it. and i could see xenia getting the same way. i just never had much luck with it. it will look good for about a month then turn to ooze.

I didn't mean to jump down anyones throat as well, even though it sounded like it. I just don't like the thought of killing anything.

I hear ya vtminter, but we do this sort of thing all the time...either deliberately or by inaction. Redbugs, aptasia, bristleworms are all deliberately killed by MANY aquarists. Fish are killed all the time either by ignorance in mixing unsuitable species, as feeders for larger predators, or even deliberately in cycling new tanks. Corals are killed all the time by mixing with fish that will consume them or by placing them in too close proximity to other corals that will do the same job.

Some specimens such as xenia have growth patterns that make this all but inevitable. Yeah, it's great to give all excess specimens away but the reality is that there are not enough takers, even if it's free, for all the xenia in the world. Do you have another alternative? This thread shows how many of us have problems with too much xenia and how many takers are there for this free stuff?
