I have a 125 gallon mixed reef that I would like to add a clam to. I will list all my equipment and would like to get opinions as to which type would be most at home in my set-up.

Oversized sump with 15 gallon fuge w/Chaeto
AquaC EV180 skimmer w/Mag7

Assorted SPS & LPS
Sailfin Tang
Sixline wrasse
pair of percs
coral beauty(I know, but he has never touched my corals)
cuc
Blue leg hermits, Astrea snails, Orange turbo snails
Olive snail
brittle stars

Latest Params:

Temp: 78
PH: 8.3
SG: 1.025
Amonia: 0
Nitrate <5ppm
Nitrite: 0
PO3: .03
Alk: 4.4
DKH: 12.5
Calcium: 380-400

I top off with RO/DI and do 10% wkly water changes.

So, what clam is best suited to my tank?

I would say you could do any clam. If you did a Crocea or Maxima you will probably put it on the rocks anyways so I would just put it atleast half way up. You could also change out those Hamilton bulbs for something with more par.

Oh and I would keep an eye on the Angel for nipping. Sometimes clams are just more then they can resist.

Thanks Jp. I was going to change out the bulbs for some Phoenix's since I have read they have much better par. I thank you for the advice and I will keep an eye on the Angel, I have another tank he could go in if he poses any threat.

I hope no one minds me jumping in hear, but I've lost 2 maxima clams recently that were in my sand bed.

I was reading on wetwebmedia that olive snails specifically "Lettered Olive Snail Oliva sayana" are predatory and thrive on mollusks...

I noticed you have one as well...

My clams are pretty much dragged in the sandbed...

Could these guys be the culprits?
