!!!!!!!Warning Fire Hazard!!!!!!!

Pirates Cove Reef
Today was the first day my chiller kicked on due to the heat, the chiller was on when I got home and the tank was 78.5 degrees, an hour later the lights went off and with the chiller on it was up to 79. I started trying to figure out and chiller was too hot too touch. Pulled the cover off and the lint trap was plugged up bad. Vacuumed it clean and the temp is coming down. It had also got pushed back against the wall and was not exahuasting very good and shooting the hot air behind the tank.

Just a warning to friends to make sure your grill is cleaned and chiller is ready:)

The weather was sure nice, but tier 5 here we come:(

damn, good catch brother!

im anal about my chiller. clean it every other month for that exact reason, and that im not home everyday so its a greater chance of things going bad, and quick!

Dotn remind me... its not teir 5 im worried about, its the GF that sees the bill im worried about... the your spending more in the damn fish than me... and I stoppped buying anything for the tank a while ago

Good catch by the way.. would have hated to see something go so wrong exspecially right before the new tank gets set up ;)

How exactly do you clean a chiller. I just installed one and would like to keep up on any maintenance for it?

My chiller has a screen over the coils, some do not, but make sure you keep the coils(the part that looks like car radiator) clean as the air flow is needed to make it work properly. If you check out a other site ********* you can see what can happen, sexycorals lost a display tank and had a major fire. Came home to frags on the floor:( Sorry mods if I am not supposed to reference other site, but this is a real danger to us who keep corals. I do not think I was close to having a fire, but I never want to come home to frags on the floor! I will be ordering a chalice frag from Mike soon to help him rebuild his personal display tank, lucky his other larger system was not touched by the fire.

I was just looking into that display a day or so before it happened. So sad to see it like that now....Best of luck to Mike getting things back up and running.

Thanks a lot. I will certainly keep my chiller coils clean as well.
