Warning on Todd's

I was in there on my lunch hour and counted in one tank alone five dead gobies and a dead firefish, and in a separate tank two or three dead percs. There wasn't any signage indicating he wasn't selling out of the tanks though and I doubt there will be since he didn't say anything when I feigned interest in one of the percs. He's either got something way wrong with his parameters or there's something going through the tanks.

the guy is an a**hole too...Back when i had freshwater i bread some chicilds and then talked to him on the phone and he said yeah send him some pics...so i sent him some pics, he picked out the exact ones he wanted(like 20 or so i think), took them to him the next day and when i walked into his store and he realized i was a teenager, he suddenly didnt want them any more.(I had called that morning before i left to confirm he still wanted them too)...anyways between the diseased tanks and him being a dick i will never go back there again...

I work with a guy who loves the place. I've never bought anything there though - it's way out of my way so I've never had an opportunity.

Its a nice spot he just has something wrong with his tanks and he is a jerk apparently if you are younger like i am though as i said before

I started my entire SW career at Todd's.

It's hit or miss with the livestock, but most places are.

For the most part, I would give thumbs up for his stuff.
I have never found another LFS that had Both cuttlefish & dwarf octopi.

Unfortunately, like all shops, they are captive to the quality of the livestock they receive. They're just ordering off of a sheet of paper. If they order from a reputable company but for some reason get a poor shipment it's not their fault. It happened to me at the shop I used to work at. Every once in a while we would get an entire shipment of garbage. It really ticked me off but it didn't seem to be dependent upon who we were buying from (many of the major wholesale suppliers). Hopefully you've just had poor timing in relation to this LFS. The times I've been in I didn't see anything that would cause me to be too concerned.

I'm not out to bash the place, and I know they're largely beholden to suppliers. A lot of people on here are down on SBT, but I have had nothing but success with their livestock. And I think it's probably unreasonable to expect to never see a dead fish, I just think that many corpses raises a red flag.

Agreed. The reach-in-the-tank-and-grab-the-dead-fish-move is not to be underestimated in this hobby. It's kind of tough to pull off though when you're a few moves behind...

What is the exact name and general location of this store?

I'm new to the hobby and I always like to tour around and look at stores.

I went to Premier on S. Wadsworth last weekend and was impressed with their livestock and customer service. Bought a tiny zoa frag with about 30 polyps for $15 and a couple test kits that I didn't have.

Aurora isn't exactly small. North Aurora wouldn't be that far at all. And Southeast Aurora is a bit of a hike. I wanted to know exactly where it was.

Took me a couple tries on the search engine, but I found it:

Todds Tropical Fish
10015 E Hampden Ave
Denver, CO 80231
(303) 338-1331

It's no really that far. Only a few miles farther than Premier. I like to "tour" stores that have reef stuff. I might drive over there some day and check it out.

I didn't see this thread when it started, but now I will add my .02. Offer change if need be. I started at todds as well, and several years ago they were a good shop with good prices. As they grew, greed has cost them a good number of customers (me being one if them) their livestock prices have almost doubbled from the time I started shopping there (within 2 years), to the time I finished. I on more than 1 occasion helped them out in their rush times, ie saturday afternoons, (with their permission of course) and on a number of occasions pointed people to this online community. He grew irritated when I pointed people to this site, and after several head butting sessions, on truly incorrect information on setting and maintaining saltwater tanks, and prices changing from the time I asked on a fish to the time it went to the counter, I have left them. I doubt that I will return unless I hear of some serious management reworking. I would really rate this store as buyer beware
