Im moving my tank to my new place and I want to plumb the return pump outside through the window that will be behind the tank. ( the sun doesnt hit the window and it will be cover to be safe)
now I know if i do that i will have to prime the pump since the sump will be underneath the tank and the pump will be outside at window level. Today I was thinking if it was wise to put the sump outside aswell on a table or platform at window level covering the sump with screen so that nothing can fall in but yet it can still get the gas exchange needed. Its just a thought there might be a huge amount of factors that im not thinking of that wont allow it. any advice or info on how i could pull it off would be greatly appreciated.

I will have a chiller for the heat issue

Well I can see a few problems with that. Lets see there will be rain, animals climbing on it, birds crapping on it, dust and dirt, pollen and bugs. I'm sure I could come up with more but it is late and my brain is starting to hurt :)

primesuspekt, I know quite a few people that have there equipment and sumps outside, but not at window level. The display tank drains the same way, but is plumbed thru the wall and outside, into the sump. Some people then build a cabinet over this system to cover it. Others have left it wide open and use the sun to grow frags.
Give it some thought before you start cutting your walls ;)

the idea of a having a frag tank, lit by the sun would be cool, they exibhits like those at the waikiki aquarium.
