This hobby comes with as many downs as ups. And it comes with many lessons. My latest lesson: I wanted him gone, but not dead. If I could have caught him, I would have done so long ago. My nasty, but beautiful, 6-line wrasse is now swimming the big ocean in the sky. Saturday was water change day, and I didnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t feed. Sunday I fed early. I believe the wrasse was in attendance then. I always hang out in the fish room ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ every day -- watching t.v., computing, exercising, chilling w/the cats. Sunday, I didnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t. I always take attendance and survey the rock scape. Sunday, I didnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t. I heard a strange spash early in the day before the lights came on, but I didnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t check it out. I did notice something strange, but forgot to look into it. I really didnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t pay much mind to the tank for the whole day. Wrong thing to do. Things were crystal clear and running smooth, everyone was fed. Yesterday evening it dawned on me the wrasse wasnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t in attendance. Heââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s always front and center, harassing every fish he can. I looked. I searched. I interrogated the other tank dwellers. I asked the cats what they had for lunch. No one knew a thing. Then I spotted him, wedge in tight, behind the overflow box against the back glass, and heââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢d been there way too long. I wondered if I did it when I put the box back after cleaning it. Surely not. All my fish hide during water changes. I still feel bad, even though he killed the cleaner shrimp I bought a while back, and he harassed the lawnmower blenny until I found him on the carpet, and heââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢d ram my one-eyed firefish on his blind side, and heââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s keep my royal gramma hiding. Even though heââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢d steal the best pieces of shrimp. Even though he threatens the clowns and their eggs. I wouldnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t have wished this on him. Man I feel bad. What lesson have I learned? Anything can happen. Never go a day without checking on things. And watch what you wish for. I was just saying on Saturday how bad of a fish he was and I wouldnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t mind not having him. I didnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t mean I wanted him dead. Geez!!! JKJ
