Water Change Hose

Hi all,
I just started doing water changes from a brute trash can to my tank using a pump and an RV garden/water hose. Once I turn off the pump there is still water in the hose.

Any suggestions on how to get all of the saltwater out of the hose after filling my tank? Seems like there is wasted saltwater in the hose that I will lose each time. My hose is 50ft so it's harder than when I used buckets.


PUMP --- HOSE --- PVC LOOP into TANK with ball valve

Can you shorten the length of the hose so you have a more straight route eliminating extra housing to have sitting water? Thus way it's easier to lift and drain.

My WC hose is regular vinyl hose I got from lowes in bulk for about .35$ a foot. It's just long enough to reach from my barrels to my tank, but still short enough so that when I unhook it from the barrels I can just walk the length of it and empty it into my sump.

When you’re done filling in the tank with new water, pick up the pump out of the water for a 30 seconds +/- (depends on the pumps power) and let it push all the water out until no more water comes out.

Wouldn't that burn up the pump?

Not if you shut it down once you hear it start taking in air. You just don't want it to run totally dry.

The pump will burn when it get too hot, that means unless you let it run dry for over 5 or 10 minutes, that wouldn’t be an issue
