Water Changes - How much per week?

I have a 12 gallon that is over a year old and I typically change out about 2 to 4 gallons every week or two weeks.

Was wondering how much people typically change out, and how frequently?

Depends on your water readings. If you do 20% per month and readings stay normal or very low and consitant then your good.
If readings seem to rise or are already to high then increase.10% weekly or bi weekly or 20 % monthly is usually enough and if not you have another issue to address.
Also the more stock you have the more its important , and in smaller tanks its very important.

I've been too lazy to test the water regularly......guess I should do that to see how my levels are responding. I now have a large clown fish, a firefish, 2 cleaner shrimp, and a blood shrimp so my bio load is definitely higher than it was when I just had the fish.

I typically change 2 gallons a week, or 4 every 2 weeks but I am trying to get my tank extra healthy. Need to break out the test kits! :)

I have found that a 10-15% per week will keep everything happy
And as long as the tank is not overstalked you'll never need to add additives.

10% weekly, Makes everything happy and no need to add additives....

How do you figure? I change 15% per week in my LPS nano and still need to dose, ca, alk and mg. Also, my salt is extreamly high in ca alk and mg...

Point being, it depends on your tank, but I do agree more frequent water changes will keep levels more stable...

I do 25% per week in the form of 4 gal per day daily water changes along with daily dosing. I know it's more than most people but on the other hand my tank looks great. I also know it's not really a 100% water water change.

I dont understand either when I had my 12 gallon LPS I had to dose once a wwek along with my 120. I also changed 25% of it every week. I seem to take more care to my 12 gal then my 120.
