Water changes

Will order salt tomorrow, be here Thursday. Will do a water change then, I have enough containers to change a lot of water, I get 25l a time from Lfs. Only got one heater though so can only warm one container at a time.

Personally I never worry about warming the water.. BUT my homes temperature is close enough to my tanks temp that its not an issue..
The tank can easily take a difference of 5 degrees or so without issue.. Not to mention your in tank heater is going to bring it right back up..
Just don't change more than 50% in a day and you should be just fine (assuming no more than 5-8 deg difference or so).. Just leaving it sit there in your house for a few hours should allow it to warm right up on its own..

Going to blitz it over next few days, do around 10 / 15 of your gallons. Hopefully will get those levels down. Then can start weekly test and change.

Out of interest, why do you say not to use rowaphos in a new tank? I'm not going to buy it now but just wondered.

Big thanks to all who took time to answer.

Because its intended to solve a phosphate issue that other methods cannot achieve.. You simply (at this point for all you know) have a 1 time phosphate issue.. You might not have that in the future..
And its really only for those that overfeed (and thus have a phosphate issue from the food) and won't correct (or don't want to reduce feedings) that due to having lots of fish,etc.. I would never use it on a new tank/no livestock,etc... situation.. Maybe in the future you might need it but now.. no..

Too many "newbies" think they must have a GFO (GFO = granular ferric oxide.. which ROWAPHOS is one brand of) reactor to have a successful tank or think that GFO is the "only" way.. Its not..
Your water changes will solve/reduce your initial phosphate issue more than likely and you won't need it again after that..

I've been in this hobby a while and have NEVER needed to resort to GFO.. IMO its a last ditch effort when all else fails.. And some level of phosphate is needed in a tank.. GFO can quickly strip that and cause more problems than it solves..

Instead of GFO reactor u can also use chemipure to help remove phosphate by placing it in sump area with high water flow. I do.
