Water changes

Hey peeps... I was at my lfs today to get my saltwater (Yes I buy pre made saltwater) for my weekly wc for my 13g nano. We got talking about my tank and how things have been going
Etc...... was telling them about how I do a weekly 3g wc and they told me that's to much and to cut back to at least half that (1.5g per week). I have to say that's the first time I've ever heard that.... so my question to u peeps is, is there rly a chance that I'm over water changing and should I rly cut back? My current parameters are where I want them with the exception of alk that has been on the high side for awhile at 12ish.
As always thanks!

Overchanging is not a problem..
It may not be necessary but not a problem..

When I had a 10g I changed 1g a week..

Most find that 10% a week or 20% every 2 weeks is sufficient

Depending on what you have in the tank to much clean water may remove to much nutrients in the water

I agree, very unlikely, even in a nano tank. You're doing about a 25% weekly water change. This is more than many people do, but certainly not high enough that should cause any issues. I think the only real chance of an issue would be is if the new water had significantly different parameters than your tank, then large changes can cause instability. however, even at a 25% change that's not very likely an issue. IMO, anywhere from a 1.5-3g weekly change would be just fine.

Is your tank having any issues you think might be related to water changes?
