How much and how do you do water changes?


I'm doing about 20% per week.

i have been doing 20% about every 2 weeks, i have now gone to 20% every week. some people do very large water changes, upto 90%.

I've been known to miss a water change here and there... sometimes a bit more... but things look best when I stick to 20% weekly.

I always do AT LEAST a 30% change. I find that anything less doesnt inflict enough change to clean the water.

Depends on the tank though, its inhabitants and the maintaince routine.

I find that if I do large water changes often, my water parameters are more difficult to maintain. Mg and Ca levels tend to fluctuate greatly. I opt for a 10-20% water chnage every two weeks. I have greater control over those parameters then.

Mine isn't automated at all since its a nano (and its at work). The only part I don't particularly enjoy is carrying the 60 lbs of RO water. It's a pretty long walk across the parking lot and up the stairs to the 4th floor and finally to my cube lol... good work out though.
