Water flow.

I really haven't looked at what I can do with my waterflow in my 46 gallon bowfront. I seem to have just enough, but envious for more. Right now I have (2) Maxi-jet 1200's each side of the tank angled diagonally at each other. I was thinking of getting a SEIO 620 or larger, but I not at all familiar with what they have to offer. I do not have a sump and aiming for SPS, any thoughts? Thanks

how much output do the mj1200's do? if you're gonna be going for sps, then you're definately need way more flow.

In general for reefs, you wanna go for about 20-25x turnover per hour as a minimum..so that'd be 920 gph total (after adding all powerheads together) just to get 20...but more is better. But for sps reefs, most will try to go for at least 30. Some will go 40 and even 50 isnt unheard of.

But also, you dont wanna just get the powerheads going in one direction. have them on opposite ends, and have the really strong ones split if possible so that you get more random flow.

I have a 40breeder and I have 2 seio 820's. I love them, they give great flow, but they are kind chunky, so I put them at the back of the tank angling towards the center, and hid them away with some Lr. Im guessing I get towards 47% turnover, that includes 2 seios, and my mag 7 return, which im guessing Im getting about 350gph with. So ya, mj's wont be enough.
Good luck, let us know what you do.

Thanks for your inputs. Looks like right now I have only 12 times turnover. I do not have a sump (return). I also have a 1" Sandbed in the Bottom of my tank. I can remove the sand no problem since I have no fish and have an extra container I can setup for a day or so for my live rock while I get the sand out. Is that recommended, or just leave the sand?

Also, how are the SEIO's? Do they make alot of noise or produce heat? Other than Tunze, what would someone recommend since the SEIO's are my budget minding choice. Would a closed loop be better, or will that get to pricey? I am aiming for 30-40 times turnover.
Thanks.

If you can afford it definetly go for the TUNZE. but if not i would highly reccomend the seios. They dont produce extra heat. But they are kinda chunky. So you could probably get 2 620's and I have like 1" sand bed and there are no problems.
