Water level

Hi
I've just had a break from keeping marines for about 7 years, decided to comeback to the hobby and just bought a 700 litres tank, on my old tanks the water rotation was controlled via a stand pipe in the weir, my new tank the water is controlled with 2 taps one for water going back into the tank and the other for water back to the sump, I'm having a nightmare trying to get the fine balance for both taps, at the moment I've got it quite stable, looking at the image, is my water to high on the Down pipe? Only asking because bits of debris are on top of the water and not flowing into the sump.

You will need a valve on the pump exit to balance the flow better.
Never saw a return as pictured, are you sure it does not require a fitting of some sort?

are there two stand pipes inside that corner flow? thats the key, i would NEVER run a tank with only one drain. your describing exactly the issues with only one drain... now imagine you went on vacation for 2 weeks.....
not worth it. Dont start your foundation of this hobby with a short cut. So many ways to cut corners in this hobby...
