Water Mixing Container & Bulkheads

I'm attempting to plumb 3 32 gallon Brute containers together for mixing and distribution and want to know thoughts of using 1 inch regular bulk heads or the flexible uniseal type. I'm going to put bulkead in the sides and the bottoms of the cans.

Thinking hard on sides and flexible in bottom or?


I want bottom plumbed for draining and sides used for circulation between cans.


Two barrels stacked in an upright stand and one next to the stacked cans.


The goal is to premix with ease and then drain tank for appropriate amount and then replace all with ball valves, pumps etc. to facilitate time and ease.

Ok I'm going a slightly different route. I've built a stand that is anchored to the wall and it will hold two 23 gallon Rubbermaid HD cans so I figured I might as well build a second stand and that way not only will it be a simpler system to direct the plumbing but also give me more capacity of changing a higher volume of water.

I guess my biggest question is which bulkhead fitting would you recommend? traditional with a gasket and nut or uni-seal of a combination?

I actually found bulkheads at lowes that are designed for non flat surfaces. They have a thick rubber gasket that squishes to conform to the shape.



Not a fan of uniseals(although a lot of people use them with no issues), and regular bulkheads will leak on a plastic barrel.

I run bulkheads out the bottom of my 32 Brute's and uniseals out the sides. I wasent sure about the uniseals at first. I've ran them for years now with no issues. extremely tight seal.

If not too curved where you put the bulkhead the container will distort to seal a normal bulkhead.

On my 32g brute can mixing station I used bulkheads on the bottom and uniseals on the side. I had it like that for about 2 years with no issues.

Bulkheads for flat areas, uniseals for curved.

I’ve used both appropriately for 10+ years and never had issues with either. I know for sure I have one uniseal going on 12yrs on a 5gal bucket...never a leak.
