Water on floor AGAIN!

 If only you knew his track record with burning water! I told him to turn the STOVE down once when I was boiling something and he turned the oven down and the smokeing beans alerted me he did something wrong! And the time I called and said "honey go ahead and peel some potatoes and get them boiling so I can mash them when I get home" I come home to huge bakeing potatoes peeled and boiling whole, not cut up into little squares. You know like everyone has seen there Mama do to boil potatoes to mash. Well, he must not have ever seen his mama boil potatoes! (Sorry all you fellas who didn't know that you have to cube the potato first) I just thought it was common sence.
Needless to say, he doesn't spend much time in the kitchen!

Thats funny Greystreet! What all we hide from the spouces with our hobbies! Problem is I can only run the fan and dehumidifier while he is at work or I will have some explaining to do! Ha HA

Rob, its 3/4 inch solid oak so if cupping is all it does it can be sanded out for the most part. It must be nailed down well because I have had a few major spills in the living room with the 80 (one almost as bad as this fat dripp acclimating a fish and falling asleep) and just have cupping. But this spill had some nice knot holes to channel the water down to the subfloor with that the other spill did not :(
Only time will tell.....We can all look at the Bad water damage saga damages at my meeting this sping! :)

Thanks wayne, I am just putting mine upstairs for the daytime and back down for night to handle the basement air. So far it doesn't look so bad so I am gonna gamble it doesn't warp. Thanks a lot though!

Dehumidification, now that's a word. I had Servicemaster come out and clean up after my bathroom flood. They ran a really big dehumidifer for four or five days and a fan under the house. Good luck angela.

Angela, If you have a drop ceiling under it, you might could drill some small holes in spots that are not likely to show seam, joint etc to let water that is trapped drain. ROB, what do you think? small 1/16" holes or smaller?

I am assuming that this house has a drywall ceiling due to the fact that this is a ceiling in a garage, due to the 1 hour fire rating required by the new international code. The problem is the question of how much water was absorbed by the insulation and all that is below the hardwood floors. Best case is to open it up and let all air out. The hole in the ceiling would just let what water that is puddling to drain. At the same time every little bit can help. I have seen the "restoration guys" cut holes in the bottom of walls and blow air up them for days to dry them out. This goal is of coarse to fight the growth of mold and mildew; the number one law suit in construction today.

I agree about the mold issue but remember Cory is unaware of the flood ;) So big holes in the garage sheetrock is a no can do. All the trapped water channeled out of the sheetrock in the garagethrough the seams in the joints. The tape actually has seperated in some places but seems dry today. I think the fact it was a very slow saturation of water is why it found a way out instead of pooling and colapsing the sheetrock in a spot. I get sick every time I think of how easy it could have been avoided on my part. I am just hopeing air circulation will be enouph to combat mold issues. I talked to a clean up company and they tryed the mold issue real hard to get the job of comming out and ripping up my floor. But you will never know short of smelling the mold or pulling up the flooring to see. Thanks for the advise. I think I will let time tell on this big boo boo.

Oh yea Rob I did smile when I remembered the polyps we talked about :)

I am with you only time will tell at this point. Short of a huge remodel project, I would probably let it run its course and hope for the best.

working in apartment maintainance I come across water leaks from a/c's and water heaters all the time.If you get it dry and the water source has stopped mold isn't an issue. With a constant water source ,even a small drip, is when it takes hold. That garage ceiling might develop water stains(light tan color) that might give away your flood to the hubby.

Thanks Demos, The floor has gave it away :) It has cupped pretty bad and the garage celing has stained and the sheetrock has split on the joints :( OH well... He hasn't noticed the ceiling. But the floor is being refinnished so he wasn't bad upset. He knows I am forgetfull! :)

The only problem I have after "the great flood" in my living on my hardwood is how it cupped and now everytime the ch&a kicks on, it creeks like sob in the hallway, just so happens to be right outside my baby girls room and wakes her up from time to time at night. She also hasnt really napped since then.
