water parameters in a nano tank

I have a 5g nano tank, and would like to set it up, but am curious as to how you would keep the water parameters in check. It does not have a skimmer, and the only filtration is a sponge like thing in the back.

Is that pretty much all you can do? How often would you suggest doing a change? It will be a light bio load, probably just one fish.

if there is rock in the tank, the water volume will be less, you will need to test the water frequently to keep the nitrates in check. How much you change will depend on the water parameters. Most likely you will be changing 30-50% at a time.

I change about 50% in my 12gallon cube once a week. Sometimes i let it slip but changing is really the only solution.

I do 2 gallons in my 20H every week. I'm running a DIY HOB fuge w/ chemi pure in it and my parameters are flawless! I wouldn't even run a sponge, use your LR as the main source of filtration. . . .

A fish will make your nitrates skyrocket in a tank that size, at least IMO. Maybe if you had like a crab or shrimp or something instead it'd work better :)
