Water quality at the Outer Banks

Hey guys, Bobby(TN) suggested to me to bring my test kits(Salifert and refractometer) and test the ocean down here at the Outer Banks. First off, I can only say I tried to do the best I could, I would have liked to get water from a deep location, but I could only get it from pretty much right at the edge where waves were crashing. Also, some time elapsed from when I got the sample to when I actually did the tests, so I don't know if that could affect any of the tests. Everything seemed to be pretty much in line with what you would expect, except for Magnesium is was way off, I think my kit may be too old, I am taking some water home and will test it again to see if anything changes from now till then, I also have a new MG kit at home to use. Here are the results:
S.G. - 1.022
Ca - 380ppm
Alk - 7.5-7.6 DKH
Mg - 990ppm
PH - 8.3
NO3- 0.5ppm
PO4- 0-0.03ppm

Nothing too out of the ordinary, I didn't think, other than the Mag. Have a good one everybody and hope to see more of you at Pat's on Sunday.

Since you're not really in a reef area I would expect the salinity, magnesium and alkalinity to be off from where we try to keep our tanks.

Had you gone to Fiji and tested the water I'm sure the results would be much different.

Keep going further south...maybe the Keys and get us some results there....O and write it off on your taxes as a business expense
