Water seems dirty?

I was at my LFS today and i was taking a look at some of the tanks they have set up, compared to those mine looks gross. My water is not green or anything, it just always has particles floating around at all times and just seems less clear. Does anyone know how to get cleaner looking water?

Running some Carbon.

Also you can run a Canister filter to run the carbon and polish the water.
If you run a canistor make sure you clean it out every 2 to 4 weeks. I clean it as part of my water change.

Better skimming, proper flow, perhaps filter socks. Carbon may help, but it's not a filter. I don't recommend running a canister filter except for occasional polishing with floss or a micron cartridge.

Aside from that the LFS may be running UV which helps with clearing the yellow tinge from the water and they probably (not certain) have very little flow and no sand in their fish tanks. As far as their coral displays and such, really look at what they are doing as far as filtration;)

So what is the difference between using Filter socks and using a Canister that is Properly maintained. I agree that Canisters are not for Lazy people.

I can change out filter socks daily in a matter of seconds, rather than 20 minutes every few days for a canister;) I can make a weeks worth of filtersocks for about ten bucks... And if life arises and you can't get your maintenance done that day/week, you just pull the filter sock off. If you unplug a canister, you get a stinky mess:lol:
