ok so i already know that a clown cant go in a 5 gallon right? but what if i increased the water volume by putting a small like 2 or 5 gallon sump?whould this work or is there simply just not enough room in a 5 gallon for a perc. clowm?

depends how big...wont be able to live in there for the entire life span i would try some small gobies or wrasses...and inverts...

I agree with coast2coast. I would try something like neon gobies or clown gobies. If you want a perc clown, I would just go buy a 10 gallon tank for 7$ or whatever they are and put one in and transfer that tank if you want. For little money more you can do more. 20 gallons would be more ideal or a 29 if you wanted to keep it small, in a 29 you could have a pair of clowns along with other kinds of fish.

i have an astablished 10 gallon reef tank i can put one in. i just thought it would be neat to have a clown in the 5 gallon. what kind of wrasses can go in there?
