Waterchage - how much?

Hi..I have a 75GL reef with about 15-20gl water in the sump. I am wondering how much water I should change at one time. Is there a best practice to this or does everyone do something different? I would be doing it probably 1 or 2 times per month max...Thanks!

A good amount for regular maintenance would be about 10% every two weeks or 20% a month. The more waterchanges, the better off you are. If you are trying to correct a problem, then you could do 10% waterchanges weekly or 20% every two weeks. I would avoid a 40% waterchange once a month because that is a large difference to your tank that could have an adverse effect on your livestock. But in a real emergency situation, it can be done. In your case, I would suggest about a 10g waterchange every two weeks would be great.

It's going to depend on other factors; filtration, supplementation, etc.

My example is a 20g LPS/Softy, skimmer, no supplements (kalk, two-part, etc) I change 20% every week using Reef Crystals and my tank and levels are thriving! I maintain Ca, Alk, Mag, Ph using this approach, for over a year now!
