Is there a product I can buy at say Home Depot or Lowes that I can use to waterproof the inside of my canopy? It will be approx. 3" from open water. So, I am conserned with being marine safe.
Okay so no one wants to reply to my post. So here I go again.
What if I primed the whole canopy inside and out with Kilz oil based sealer, then painted with my black exterior latex paint on the outside, then put 2 or 3 coats of spar-urethane on the inside. then installed a small fan, and put a vent in the lid above the lights? That should be enough to prevent warp on pine canopy. Don't you think?
I built a pine hood for my 125, 6 ft. long. I painted the inside with kilz, the 2 coats of gloss white exterior latex enamel. The outside has 5 light coats of polyurethane, lightly sanded between coats. It has been in service for over a year with no warping. Much of the stability depends on how well the wood was dried before being used.
I always use a two part marine epoxy and have never had a problem. This stuff is permanent and completely waterproof. Dilute it with some acetone to get it to the right viscosity, and apply it like a varnish.
Give it enough coats of polyurethane, & don't worry..
Stay away from long unsupported pieces of wood. For example: If your tank has a center brace, so should your canopy.
