WAV Pumps moving Substrate all Around

Brand new tank. I realize, too, once I get some rocks in there flow will change. But for now, my WAV pumps keep digging holes in my substrate. I'm curious about different placements people have used. Any suggestions? I'm guessing as long as I don't have rocks I can expect substrate shifting all around.

Turn them down... if flow is too high and possible substrate too fine it will blow around...rocks or not...
As the tank cycles and as bacterial population increases the sand does get a bit stickier due to bacterial secretions...

Once your tank matures sand blows around less.

That said, when I changed tanks I specifically also changed sand from the super fine oolite sand I used in my first tank to reef flakes which is a bit larger grain.

I wanted to be able to crank up flow higher without the stupid sand blowing around. Would 100% recommend the same to anyone else, super fine grain not worth it.

I'm finding a Happy medium. Those wav pumps are pretty awesome. Now that I've gotten my rock in the tank and adjusted the pumps my substrate seems to be settling. I'm just surprised at how strong those pumps actually are. They are set on the maverick setting which ebbs and flows. But I think the highest I have them is at 20% and I'm getting some significant flow from in addition to my varios 6 return Pump.

i have a 110G tank. My WAV pumps are around 20-25% most of the day with a small peak of 35%. They are strong pumps for my size of tank.
