Wave in 75G with 1 MP40

Can you create a nice wave in a 75G with only 1 MP 40. I have a DSB so I am concerned with a massive sandstorm? Any first hand experience..if so how did you set it up.

Thanks

At about 50% power, I have a 1/2" wave going in my 58. The time is pretty short, just barely less than a second.

not to hijack this- but in pulse mode once you've selected the max speed and press the set button then the blue flashes for the pulse interval-
when the dial on the minus side is that suposed to be the fastest pulse and when the dial on the + side the most delayed pulse?

thanks

I don't remember as I don't use pulse on my 350 as the rockwork degrades the wave too much over the 8' span, plus the fact that I don't want the extra stress on the tank.

Just set the max speed and the move it back and forth. You'll know very quickly which way is which, but I do believe the more + the longer the pulse.

thanks. I was shocked as I figured that the + would pulse the fastest

onano-
yes you can make a nice wave in your 75g. Look @ utube

I have a 75 gal and am able to create a small wave along the length of the tank. The pump is about 3 inches below water level, speed set to maximum and pulses fairly short. It's not that difficult to tune in the correct pulse frequency. Just make small adjustments to the potentiometer and wait a few seconds for it to stabilize. You'll find the sweet spot fairly quickly. Of course it may depend on your rock work too. I also have a pre-skimmer box at the other end of the tank which probably affects the wave harmonics.

Addemdum. I've found that I prefer the reef crest mode better. The flow variation seems more beneficial for my situation and it's not as noisy as when it's in pulse mode ramping up and down from full speed to idle.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, my sand bed is close to 4 inches in some areas and no sandstorm resulted when making waves...

Agreed. At the moment I have two opposed at the back, different heights, antisynced in reefcrest and two opposed at the front, different heights, antisynced in lagoon.

I need to order two timers that I can have set at 1/2 hour intervals and try a gyre as my rockwoork runs down the middle of the tank.

I was able to get a 1/2 wave in my 90 today with one vortech... These are bad pumps! I can't hear it unless I put my head near it to listen... I find it very quiet.
hope that helps.

REvision- I was playing with pulse and got the wave to over 1 inch and it kept getting bigger & bigger and almost splashed out! I had to shut off pulse before water went on the floor!!

Love these things!

buying one tomorrow morning. very exited...I also have a 75g reef with SPS and im debating on where to place it..

you'll love it! I love mine. Trying to scare up the funds to buy # 2. I have mone on the left side of the tank. It reaches the hole tank in my 90 and the undertow is awesome!!

Enjoy

I don't always have this wave going but this is two vortechs. I like to live dangerous for 10mins. Its in a 75g

i think im gonna buy the mp40 now and purchase an mp20 when they come out so i can have two for a little cheaper!

I just would like to post this video because I love these pumps. Easy to clean lots of flow and they are not an eye soar. Plus I can't wait to get the new mags and the flash for my driver.
