Wave in the Aquarium

Are there any extra benefits to having a wavebox in the tank? I've heard polyp extension is better and I think it looks cool, but are there any other benefits in a reef setup?

More random flow also delivers food/resources to more of the coral, and encourages better more natural growth, instead of just growing towards a constant flow direction.

But it can also potentially cause extra stress on the seams of your tank and result in premature failure. I have no experience with this but I have bought used tanks and have thought twice about a waver maker given what I have read.

YMMV

I made sure to buy a brand new tank just because of this. It probably will reduce the life but I hope to move into a house and upgrade after college. If all goes well I'll only have this tank for 3-4 years.

I'm buying a used tunze nano wavebox for a good price. With all the benefits it sounds like I'll be happy with it. :)

you will see ALOT of good changes with SPS and LPS.

wait, even softies, lol

I would go with a MP40 though,as the wave makes all the detritus get suspended in water and then the surge flow makes them all go to the overflow ! prety nice.
