Wavebox...FINALLY...Kinda :)

Purchasing a wavebox from someone in my local reef club that is selling his large tank, but he needs to get rid of his SPS before he let the unit go...which I am cool with....comes with one magnet which he says works fine for him (although I have read on here that the box requires 2), which I suppose is better than the suction cups a couple of threads down....;)

Okay so this is my set up as far as flow goes:

220 gallon (72x24x30) dual corner overflow
Mag 18 split into 2 returns
Seio 2600

My question..I know I have NO flow for sps currently:

But with the addition of the wave box, will it create enough flow for me to start adding some SPS (and I do have the lighting requirement already)?

I hope he sells those SPS off quickly...LOL

The wavebox will help but you will need more directional flow as you start adding more and more SPS.

as for the wavebox only come with 1 magnet, IMO that is more than enough. I always use one magnet on mine place it at the bottom and suction cup on top but two always better.

Thanks for the advice.....i'll make sure I add another powerhead down the road.....

Okay finally got it and have had it in the tank since yesterday...now have a question on setting the wave frequency....

I have a 6 foot long tank and it is positioned to where there is a clear shot all the way across the tank...

Instead of having a single wave as I have seen with other wavebox owners, mine seems to be more like a ripple effect or little consecutive waves....

Would you recommend that I have the pulse closer to the minimum or maximum for my size tank (220 gallons)...

Thanks,
ismael

Hello Ismael, the ripple effect because you have not get the right frequency yet. I would start with the frequency knob turn all the way counter clockwise and slowly (i mean very slow) turn it clockwise. Everytime you made the adjustment, stop and observe the wave for a min then make another adjustment if necessary. Once you find the right frequency, you will have a single large wave approx 1.5"-2".

okay, the frequency is the one that is on the driver not the white knob on the actual controller correct? That could explain why I haven't gotten the single wave...I have been playing with the Pulse and not the frequency adjusters...

Thanks again Steve.

No frequency is the white knob on the controller. Set the driver to 100%. Like Jarhead said mke the adjustments with the white know in tiny increments and give it a bit to see if it changes the wave.

Okay I have the driver at 100% and have started at point zero...will slowly adjust that as instructed...thanks Shawn.

Good luck??? LUCK????? I don't need no stinking luck....I have you guys...

Thanks for the quick help....I got it tuned in to just under a 1" wave...anything more and I would have water coming out over the top...so it worked out just fine.... wooo hooo... I am one happy camper.

It would be more natural if you have the wave crashing into the opposite side and splash some water up in the air.... :mixed:

ha ha ha ha....i am sure it would...don't think mamma would like that very much though....nor would my canopy, I can see it throwing a fit over some time...LOL...thanks again guys...
