Not sure about the free impeller..you'd have to ask Roger. Don't plan on a response as MACNA starts today. There's nothing wrong with the old impellers, they just improved the design a little (one piece unit), so I suspect it is not free.

Yes, it's comes out pretty easy. There's a rubber gasket around the nozzle that is used to keep it snug in the box, other than that, it just pulls right out.

I'd also recommend removing the sponge pad around the pump. It's just collects garbage and will eventually start to impede the flow. I find no need for it since I don't have those on my regular Stream pumps.

So maybe 3 times a year they need to be cleaned. I guess thats not too bad. I am still going to wait to see how the Seio wavemaker works out before I pick a direction.

I have the old drive units (impeller piece) on my 6100s. Asked Roger about switching them out and was told there was no need to replace them - the new one piece units do nothing different than the old ones. He did not say they would replace them free.

As a matter of fact, I had a driver fail on one of my streams last week. I sent the whole package to Roger on Saturday, arrived on Monday in Texas and shipped back same day with a new driver and transformer. They did not replace the old drive unit in the pump.

Due to customer service alone I would pick Tunze. I've had a wave box before and it worked great just not for my size of a tank. I now use the streams with the multicontroller and I couldn't be happier. Fantastic products

Me, I don't like the streams, at least not the 6060/6080. I much prefer the MJ Streams, quieter, consume less energy, can use a regular wavetimer, and lighter weight can be mounted on a seaswirl. And a small fraction of the price compared to the controllable ones: $35 with parts compared to $300+. Very similar flow (though not a variable rate option, true).

What would happen then?

It works fine, you just end up with some splashing in your overflows. I solved the problem by just cutting some small pieces of acrylic to cover my overflows. There is also the sound of the water falling into the overflow which a carefully cut standpipe can take care of.
