Wavebox in a penninsula display?

In an eight foot long penninsula, with overflows on one end, should waveboxes be ruled out altogether? Can a positive effect be achieved without a large standing surface wave?

The McReefersons,

Excuse my ignorance but this Aussie is not familiar with a "penninsula" I am curious?

Cheers

that's where the short end is against the wall with the overflow, and the tank sticks out from the wall, with the two lengths visible from each side as well as the end, like the current TOTM ( http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2007-07/totm/index.php )

my tank is in this configuration but only four feet long, I get about a 1.5" wave, I don't run a large return pump so I do not have any sloshing or sound from the overflow because of the wavebox, the wave just crests the teeth on the box and drops back down

but I think the surface wave is the whole point of the box, is that something you are trying to avoid?
