wavebox tuning (down more possible?)

Hi,

Have a few fine Tunze products, '95 controller & two 6200s, and a wavebox.

I'm trying to tune my wavebox to be happy with it. So far, this thing works too well! :D

My 330g tank is 74"L x 32"H x 36"D glass eurobraced.

I've turned the driver control right down (to weakest power setting) but I'm still finding the waves to be too big.

Are there any other adjustments including modifications to the box or pump that I could do to reduce the wave crests? Such as blocking part of the flow, adding filler to the box?

Making it inefficient is OK. I'm hoping to have a max water height change of say 1.5" ( .75" up & down from center ).

Why? Well mostly because I don't want to loose 3-4" inches of visible water column - the canopy will hide the fluctuating water line. And I'm also concerned that if I have it too closely adjusted and it goes astray that it will spill over. :)

Thanks much for your help!

I would first try turning the screen on the pump so the solid side is up- this usually cuts 1/8"- 1/4". If you need more buy a 6100.12 prop, this iwll cut the wave probably another 1/2"

Great, thanks Roger, so it is possible with a pinch of work, to tune it down.

Is it better to restrict the screen (intake) of the pump vs. the outflow? I could also move the sponge a bit to cover part of the screen to reduce intake further for experimenting.

I would like 1.5" ( total up/down ) wave action - that should still have an effect on the tank for suspension of particles, and flow, etc. Agreed?

Is it true that I've read somewhere that I can't run the pump that comes in the wavebox & the driver by itself without the controller because of some power difference?

Could I not use the wavebox 6200-like pump as a stand alone unit if I choose not to use it in the wavebox?

How much is a 6100.12 prop? I might order one from you if not too expensive to experiement with.

Thanks!

Yes, if you run a wavebox pump continuosly (not off and on) it will be destroyed. You would have to buy a 6200 transformer to use it seperately or it will overdraw the transformer. I don't ship to Canada so you need to contact the Canadian distributer. They are about $16 US. You could try covering the intake with the foam.

Ok, tnx Roger. I am not likely to use the wavebox now.

If I remove the stream from the wavebox, can I run the pump at 50% or something via the controller?

If not what's the part number an approx cost of a 6200 transformer?

Thanks!

The transformer is about $120. You couldn't run it that way, either get the 6100 prop and run it as a 6100 or buy the bigger transformer. Part number 6200.802
