Wavebox w/ 6000

I found a good deal on a tunze stream 6000. If I were to build a wavebox and timer, could I use this pump and would it create a decent wave on a 60" long 150g tank? I read somewhere that the normal streams (6000, 6100, 6200) can not be switched on and off as much as the stream in the tunze wavebox, something to do with the transformer. Is this true?

Thanks

It would not be cost effective, by the time you got the controller, box, modded the pump, you are looking at over $300. The pump would have to have $160 in new parts just to get it running as a wavebox pump.

I was planning on building the box and controller myself. Just wanted to know if the 6000 can switch on and off as fast as the 6212 or whatever that wavebox pump is.

Yes, the wavebox pump is a hybrid between a 6200 and 6100, as long as the driver is a 7240.27 it will work but a 6000 is very weak compared to the wavebox pump so the effect will be rather small.

Thanks for the quick replys. Tunze really has awesome customer service!

I assume the 6000 comes with that driver, the 7240.27, unless it is the 7420.26 which is the other driver that works on controllers(not sure of the difference). So, if the wave height is not substantial from only a 6000 running in a wavebox I could simply upgrade the transformer to a 6100's and triple the flow?

What does the hybrid pump in the 6212 use from each the 6100 and 6200 and which does its flow output more closely resemble?

Thanks,

The output is that of a 6200, it is essentially a 6200, it has a 6100 transformer because it never needs the full wattage of the bigger transformer due to being turned off and on so frequently. To be used on a wavebox type set up I would be sure it has a 7240.27, the 7240.26 was pre wavebox/6200 and was not designed for the higher wattage peaks. I think a 6100 is the minimum. Our earliest prototypes used a 6100.
