Wavemaker and overflows

Hi

I just bought a wavebox for my new 6ft tank.
Would it make a difference where i put the overflow.
The guys at the LFS are drilling bottom holes in the centre for an overflow pipe/return pipe. would it be ok to move this to the side, as it would work alot better with my rock/coral design.

The ideal is if the overflow box is centered on the back wall. The water level stays fairly constant in the middle.
