So... I've been out of the hobby for 5+ years after a move across the country when I couldn't bring my 240g with me. I just recently stumbled across and acquired a used acrylic tank and system that is currently cycling. It's not a standard-sized tank, but I'm thinking it's probably around 225-240 gallons plus the sump is probably 40 gallons or so. It is a 60" L x 30" W x 30" T tank with one center overflow.
Anywho, I have most of my equipment set-up and running except for the additional powerheads/wavemakers for more water movement within the tank.
This tank came with something I have never had before. That something is one hole in the top bracing at the back left corner and one in the back right corner. The previous owner had what appeared to be a large powerhead that fit into the hole with just the intake/return hanging down in the water. You could rotate the return portion to direct water flow. She only had one on the tank and it wasn't working so I threw it out without writing down brand and model, etc.
I am having a hell of a time trying to find the correct term for that type of powerhead and where I could buy two more. If they are even still a common item at all. Obviously, in my mind, that is a more attractive look than having wavermakers or powerheads that attach to the side of the aquarium with magnets, etc. because the tank is viewable from 3 sides. The main bulk and motor of that thing was above the tank under the canopy so you couldn't see wires or any of that.
If anyone knows what the heck I am talking about and can give me some direction on whether these things are still available, from where, and what they are called, that would be super helpful! I could also use some direction on how much flow I should be aiming for in this tank. I kept mostly zoas and lps in the past with a couple of easy sps, but this system is fairly decked out in terms of lighting, chiller, canopy fans, etc. so I don't want to limit myself too much by not having enough water flow if I want to go mostly sps down the road.
